Burgh Beautiful Linlithgow
Town Centre Hanging Baskets and Planters
Planning, planting and maintaining 120 Hanging Baskets and 40 floral planters (and some barrels) in spring and autumn is an enormous task for Burgh Beautiful, but very much enjoyed by our volunteers.
Our hanging baskets are to be found adorning poles and lampposts throughout the town centre, from West Port and St Ninian’s Road to Blackness Road near its junction with Baronshill Avenue. For summer 2025, these will contain a mix of three shades of trailing surfinia petunia, double yellow calibrachoa, silver dichondra and light blue trailing lobelia, something of a departure from the traditional colour theme of reds, pinks and purples. The baskets are planted out by Burgh Beautiful volunteers at our Clarendon workbase, using plants from Pentland Plants in Loanhead.

The many planters can be found along the whole length of the High Street, whether complementing the flower beds at Low Port, beautifying The Cross, or brightening up the pavements. Of particular note are the two relatively recent, multi-tiered planters at either end of the street, sponsored by Pubwatch. Most of the old wooden barrels and all the former rather crude concrete containers have been replaced with steel planters, except for two groups of three in front of the Star & Garter Hotel which have been retained because of proximity to, and associations with, the former St Magdalene’s Distillery and nearby hostelries.
