The Thistles
With the support of Burgh Beautiful, the impressive metal ‘thistles’ planter and sculpture at The Vennel was installed in drizzly conditions on the morning of Friday, 14 June 2024.
The work was financed by the local trade organisation Pubwatch under the watchful eye of Ian Gibson. It was designed and made by Kevin Hope of Bo’ness steel fabricators, Granfab Ltd. Reflecting the design of the sculpture, the planting around the bottom of the sculpture is made up of various ‘thistle-like’ plants. These were put in by Quentin Allardice of Turf Irrigation Services (Scotland) Ltd, the local firm which also provided the drainage gravel and soil.
The sculpture is sited on the site of a tree removed several years ago. More recently, Burgh Beautiful considered this as the location for the children’s mosaics now on display below the Regent Centre offices at the east end of the High Street.
Public reaction to the new installation has been very positive. All concerned with this worthy addition to the Linlithgow scene should have our congratulations!
