Floral Display at Linlithgow Railway Station

Linlithgow Railway Station welcomes visitors to the town with several floral barrels and railing containers, mostly with high-impact planting, all year round, carried out by a small group of Burgh Beautiful volunteers. In addition, our volunteers plant up the wooden ‘train’ (replaced in 2024 by ScotRail) behind the eastbound platform, and, very recently, they have created a ‘bee/insect friendly corridor’ with permanent planting along the back wall of the opposite car park (adjacent to Back Station Road). ScotRail meets all our planting and other expenses relating to the station and, for this, we are immensely grateful.

ScotRail also rates our involvement very highly and has indeed presented our lead volunteer at the station, Sally Chambers, with an award for her ‘Outstanding Contribution to Community Rail’ at a ceremony in Glasgow on 1 November 2024.

In the waiting room are further reminders of Burgh Beautiful’s long term interest in the enhancement of the station – an extensive display of floral tiles made by local schoolchildren as well as three banners created by the Linlithgow & District Embroiderers’ Guild, one of which features Burgh Beautiful.
